God has been so good to me and in turn, I love to be his instrument of blessing ;-) I have a hard time imagining why someone else in my shoes wouldn't do the same. I can only imagine myself in a similar situation and believe that a kind word from a stranger, and better yet, a meal, would be such a blessing. I pray your daughter enjoys her experience in Nairobi. I know anyone who goes from NA to Africa is generally forever changed. But my guess is that this won't be your daughter's first trip to Africa.Joyfulnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6940863090367389327.post-64646025068412563202011-06-26T08:18:05.832-07:002011-06-26T08:18:05.832-07:00Hello Georgene, I'm so glad you enjoyed the po...Hello Georgene, I'm so glad you enjoyed the post. I don't actually live in Kenya. I was just visiting there. It is difficult to see the people begging on the streets though there are fewer on the streets each year when I return. I believe there is some kind of law against it now, or at least that is what I heard someone say. But some people do still beg on the streets.Joyfulnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6940863090367389327.post-45209290290730785152011-06-26T08:15:39.033-07:002011-06-26T08:15:39.033-07:00Hello Regina, I had a very rewarding trip. It wasn't the kind I had in mind but my friend Moses helped them pick it out and it certainly gave off wonderful light so it will help them study after school by illuminating their room. The boys were very pleased about it. Given it is rechargeable it will also save them from having to purchase batteries which would be an ongoing and prohibitive cost.Joyfulnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6940863090367389327.post-88706028414304002742011-06-26T08:13:17.811-07:002011-06-26T08:13:17.811-07:00Hello Snowwhite, the boys felt that I had helped t...Hello Snowwhite, the boys felt that I had helped them a lot and I'm sure it seems that way to them because they had some happy times and food in their bellies just before God blessed them with a donor to help them go to school. It was wonderful to have a part in their happiness :-)Joyfulnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6940863090367389327.post-56770223150285967912011-06-26T08:11:50.927-07:002011-06-26T08:11:50.927-07:00Hello Caroline, primary school in Kenya was made f...Hello Caroline, primary school in Kenya was made free a few years ago. However the cost is for things related to school like school uniform and shoes and books and stationary. Many children are in boarding school and so that means payment for their stay as well as food, spending money, travel funds and toiletries. These boys will be walking to and from school each day from their humble home.Joyfulnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6940863090367389327.post-6454870514506193112011-06-26T03:33:05.027-07:002011-06-26T03:33:05.027-07:00I was wondering from a practical point of view how...I was wondering from a practical point of view how one would get these boys into a school - one would have to be a Kenyan and have some influence I suppose. Isn't schooling compulsory and therefore free? I am all ignorance about Kenya I'm afraid. It's so sad that these boys want to have a better future and yet their country can do nothing to help.Loniceranoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6940863090367389327.post-4494800689293284942011-06-23T07:38:12.030-07:002011-06-23T07:38:12.030-07:00Joyful, thanks a lot for posting this wonderful st...Joyful, thanks a lot for posting this wonderful story.
