The goals of the Missions of Hope in 2011 are:
1) to provide educational assistance to the village orphans. This is an ongoing need and there is always a scramble to help several children.
2) to complete drilling of 1 well. This has actually been completed but the people are now waiting for assistance with getting a pump and other related assistance. This is very costly. More wells are desired but this kind of project required enormous collective effort and lots of donors or a few very large donations.
3) to lend financial help to purchase seeds and fertilizer for the village farmers.
4) to provide emergency medical assistance and other emergency assistance as needed. The most recent example of this was helping Kigen. You can read about him on my blog.
5) to raise funds to help a young man named Kipngeno study in the medical professions. He graduated from high school almost 2 years ago now and is waiting for help to go to university. Originally he planned to enroll in nursing school but has now been accepted to pharmaceutical studies.
Kenya is in dire need of medical personnel. If you are able to help him, please let me know. He is expecting to start university in September 2011.6) to provide emergency food relief.

Most of the villagers plant corn or maize. They rely on this crop for their sustenance and they sell some to make a few shillings and buy other things they need for themselves or their children. The planting season is anywhere from late January to early March each year. The harvest time is around August. These are difficult times for the farmers as they usually don't have the capital to invest in planting, fertilizing and harvest. If you can help a farmer, please donate

I also have personal projects to help the women and children served by the Missions of Hope.
1) to provide jiko stoves to 35 households. Goal met.
2) to provide knitted slippers/socks/needed items to the children. Goal not yet met.
3) to provide sanitary napkins to the women and girls. Need is now expected to be met by the Government of Kenya.
4) to assist one Kenyan village woman with her entrepreneurial goals. Goal has been met.
So far, I've managed to help women in 4 Kenyan villages to get a jiko stove. The knitting project will have to wait until I can get people who will commit and follow through with knitting. In the meantime, the government of Kenya seems to be ready to provide school girls with sanitary napkins. I hope they follow through with it as it would be a real answer to prayer. School girls are susceptible to dropping out of school when they get their menses because they do not have adequate way to address their needs for napkins. I have made a loan to one woman farmer. I wait and pray that she is able to repay the loan after harvest so that another woman can be helped.
