Thank you to all those who left kind comments on my last post about my mother's passing. I appreciate you all and your kind encouragement to continue blogging. I have decided to continue in this space though my blogging may be a bit sporadic for the next while. As I have more time and energy I hope to resume more fully. In the meantime I will continue to visit blogs as often as I can.
Early morning sunrise |
On a recent walk I was struck by the way people make use of their spaces to carve out garden areas wherever they can.
Single family dwelling back patio |
Back apartment above retail space. I like the lights they've strung up |
It's not too often I see a patio set up in the front yard. But this is a huge multi-apartment dwelling |
Something called a parklet, a mini-park set up in several areas of the city |
Another back facing patio (facing alleyway) above a retail space. |
Parklet flowers |
Can you spot the bee?

It's nice to see people make an effort at gardening in a tough area.
Your photos are lovely, Penny. And i love how you are seeing gardens everywhere. Yes, claiming personal space, large or small, is so important. It's fun to see how people in your city are doing it!
Lovely shots of flowers and sky.
Beautiful photos, the landscapes and the flowers are precious.
love all the green and flowerish places and the way people in your area create those spaces :-)

Hello, looks like a beautiful city for walking. I love all the gardens and flowers. The parklet is a nice idea. Beautiful sky captures. Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Happy Sunday, enjoy your day and new week!
My three little ones just planted some flowers. I would love for my porch to be more colorful! This inspires me! :o)
Parklets--a great concept. I am renaming my front yard at once.
Lovely captures, all. Enjoyed the sweet pansy faces :) Have a wonder-filled week!
Beautiful photos.
I like the idea of the mini parklets. It does seem that we all need that contact with nature, however small it maay be. It is uplifting - that's the reason.
I missed seeing your previous post and I am so sorry for your loss, but know that your faith is a blessing and help. It is a hard time afterwards with all there is to deal with just when you would rather remember the happy times ... I'm glad you took time to go out for a lovely nature walk around the neighborhood. I always have found that excellent therapy. And I am very glad you shared it with us....lovely summer flowers .... Eugene just put in a few of those mini parklets downtown...i like them.
Glad you are back.
Saw the busy buzzy Bee.

Great uses of space in an urban area.
What a great stroll around the town and noticing the great use of space. I never heard of a parklet but I like the name! As for bogging, take your time and do what you need to, we know that real life is much more important than blogging and we will be here when you want to return.
Beautiful place with such lovely flowers.
your "nightfall" is a great shot. Cool to get the dark clouds as backdrop to the lit up buildings :)
Oh, sweet Lady, I'm so sorry about the loss of your Mom. Prayers for you. Beautiful fotos. Hope you have a peaceful weekend.
Hi Penny, sorry to hear about the wild fires happening in your area. I hope that you will be safe and the air quality improves soon. Lastly you are amazing the missionary work you do.I was saddened that the little toddler with the tumour died, and when the boy needed his father the most he cased him out the family home what an evil person. The work you do really is making a difference in that you are providing hope, which is a beautiful thing xxx
