My Day Today

“The sun did not shine. It was too wet to play. So we sat in the house. All that cold, cold, wet day.” ― Dr. Seuss, The Cat in the Hat
I couldn't resist a photo of the beautifully coloured orange leaves.

But as you can see from the photo below, it was raining very heavily. It has been raining heavily here for some time.

On days like this I like to stay home and make some hot soup or bake something comforting, read a good book or go to the movies.

Today I went to see "Midnight's Children".

It was a rather long movie set in post-independence India, and based on the book and screenplay of the same name by Salman Rushdie.  I won't give away the plot but I did enjoy it.  It seems there are many good movies being released in November and December. It's a great relief to know that there are still good movies being made. The next one I hope to see is "Searching for Sugarman" (already released) or "Anna Karenina" (released on November 21).

Love the Dr Zeus quote you have chosen for today. Sounds like a good idea to go see the film. Sounds like an interesting one too, I will look out for it. I am interested at the moment to see the new film that everyone is reviewing just now, called Flight. You seem to have a good range of films available to you in your cinemas, we only seem to get the mainstream ones here and have to travel further afield to see something different. It is not raining here today but I am going to make soup for the week's lunches so thanks for reminding me(I had forgotten that was on my to do list).

Hi Jan, I'm glad you like the Dr. Zeuss quote. I've always loved Dr. Zuess and I thought the quote was fun. I haven't heard of the film, Flight. I'll have to check it on line. We are fortunate here to have so many films, in fact too many to take in. We have such a wide choice and many film buffs who organize and make sure they bring in particular kind of films that are not mainstream. That is how I've been hearing about some of these films lately (like Come Back Africa, Rebelle, Midnight's Children and Roepman" and then I follow up on line). I learned about another film coming to our theatres soon. I found it in 10 parts on line (Latcho Drom).

Your orange tree is so pretty, kind of draping like bunches of grapes - so artistic.

it is good when you don't have to be away from home when the weather is like that; I find it a luxury really

It has been raining a lot here, although yesterday was dry. Now we are expecting the cold...

I first saw the Anna Karenina movie as a child. The titular role was played by Greta Garbo and I never forget the movie! There are several versions of the film including one with Sophia Marceau playing AK and you can actually see that one in 25 parts on youtube. World release dates for the newest version with Keira Knightley and Jude Law don't give a Kenya release but perhaps it is in the first part of 2012 http://www.universalpicturesinternational.com/intl/annakarenina/intl/releasedates/release-dates.html

Hi, Penny, love your photos!

Today I ran across a recipe for a wonderful-sounding soup for cool, rainy days. The write-up that goes with it is hilarious—don’t miss it! It’s from the Port Angeles, Washington, newspaper. When I lived in Port Angeles, on clear days we could look up toward Vancouver, so perhaps some days you can look southwest and see Port Angeles. Anyway, here’s a link for the soup recipe:

Nice to see you, Linda. The soup does sound wonderful and the write up is uplifting ;-). We can't see Port Angeles from Vancouver even on a clear day. Perhaps from Tsawwassen (Schwartz Bay) where the ferry to Victoria departs; or maybe from from somewhere in West Van. on the mountain tops ;-) It would be a lovely sight I'm sure.

Oops, I meant 10 parts :-)
