This is wonderful, Penny, but of course it is the proverbial drop in the bucket. War-torn countries are at risk anyway, and drought multiplies the problem exponentially.
I hope to have news of Canada participating as the US is promising to do.

Hello friend Penny, I will be out of hospital on Friday, thanks be to God.
If all of us supported the less forftune, there would be less poor in this world. I am on a small pension now, but till support two children plus milk to a village each month. It is a joy to know, each little bit helps. God bless you. xx

Al Jazeera, the UN and al-Shabab's whole denial of any famine- turn my stomach. According to him it's just a drought? Nobody could say the efforts are bad (celebrities are now going ahead with the relief effort as well.) I've been looking deeply at this and of course while seeking..and still feel that one has to examine the root cause. (my unfolding thoughts) (smile and disgust)
Thanks Penny-

@Kay, Yes, it is wonderful news indeed. Canada of course is also doing it's part. Right now the Canadian government will match every dollar donated to charities that are raising funds for the drought in East Africa. So any Canadian reading this, please give generously to Canadian international charities who are raising funds for East Africa. Your dollars will be matched until September 16th, 2011.

@Jo, yes, Jo, the prayers are needed. I believe in the power of prayer to change things. Keep on praying :-)

@Diane, I know what you mean. I know many people are working hard to ensure the food gets to where it needs to get too. I do see some positive things happening in Africa toward change for the better though there is certainly a long way to go. I don't believe that direct food relief from foreign countries is the way to go in the long term so I am happy to see that agencies are now talking about other longer term initiatives. In the short term though people need to eat and now.

@Princess Sarah, you put it just right, "an opportunity to help and be blessed". Thank you for the visit.

@Crystal Mary, bless your heart for helping the children. It is a joy when we know we are making a real difference to someone's life. I thank God too that you are mending and getting out of hospital very soon.

@Regina, I understand what you mean my friend. Continue to look deeply into this. There are reasons for the famine and the answers do not lie in emergency food aid but in long term solutions. For now, people need immediate relief and that means food aid. But agencies are talking longer term strategies now. It will take a lot of time and effort and foreign governments to stop thinking of their own self interests. Many people in the developed nations do not even RECOGNIZE just how important Kenya is to their safety. It is one democracy, albeit fledgeling, between us and Al Queda et al. Why do you think there are so many attacks (and foreign interests there)?

@EG Wow, I'm glad you agree. Thank you for visiting.

@WebbieLady, thank you for caring and for reading...and hopefully sharing. Bless you.

Hi Penny..thanks. I'll try to make a stab at it. Brief as I can- this is what's been bothering me. We've become involved in yet another war with Libya, which Obama cites his justification for in the (Responsibility to Protect, or Responsibility to Act), principles, now backed by the United Nations, based on the idea that sovereignty is not a privilege but a responsibility that can be revoked if a country is accused of "war crimes," "genocide," "crimes against humanity" or "ethnic cleansing." George Soros (think Shadow party) is on the board and has outlined his (fundamentals of Responsibility)- "By specifying that sovereignty is based on the people, (then delegated to the government) the international community can penetrate nation-states' borders to protect the rights of citizens." It goes on- http://www.wnd.com/?pageId=333897 So, my problem is, there is this huge crisis going on in Somalia (again- pretty much 92 percent controlled by Islamists)..yet our boys are fighting them??? Apparently the Libyan protesters are just cool (but we know they are only interested in annihalating Israel and the West and bringing in Sharia law)? There are others on that board too, but the irony of all that starvation, rape and slavery, who what's his face - (Shababb- its leader has pretty much denied any famine or at least acts as though it's dramatized.
However, Soros's desire has been a so called borderless society, hmm? But thing is, they've clearly picked sides!
There is a new update on this whole crisis as well
http://frontpagemag.com/2011/08/17/in-somalia-jihad-uber-alles/
Very troubling, but we must keep praying- praying for wisdom and doing all we can. Thanks for your work and for a chance to even share my thoughts here-

My point was (I forgot) but am sure you've gathered was- the huge contrast of the suffering in Somalia..they are the ones in an emergency who need relief and back up right now!!
