Preparing for the Wedding

The eldest of my nephews is getting married on September 1st. It is a garden wedding in a hot city (semi-arid) so I didn't know what to wear. I wanted something cool and unfussy.

This is what it looks like on but that isn't me in the photo.
I found just the dress on line.

It is quite comfortable and very light in weight though lined.  I like the colour very much.

I am thinking of buying these Birkenstock sandals for comfort and for keeping cool. I actually had my eye on these since long before I decided what I will wear to the wedding.  Now is a  good time to order them on line.  I should have them by the time of the wedding.

I think I've also found a dress for my niece who doesn't normally wear dresses. This maxi dress is very light and cool.

Since she is much smaller in the neck area, this higher neckline will be great for her.

You'll notice the dresses are both simple and flowing.
I think this shape is my new favourite for dresses and I will likely use it as a base pattern to make myself some new ones.

I'm glad to have the "what to wear" decisions out of the way so now I can focus on planning for the trip which will also include a birthday party for mom and visits with other relatives.  There is a lot of activity to pack into a couple of days.

What a beautiful colour that dress of yours is, and the style is just right for a hot place. You are just the person to help someone out who doesn't do dresses. Your niece must be so glad to have you Penny. I quite understand her as I am someone who doesn't often wear dresses. I also struggle with "what to wear" decisions so understand your relief at getting it out of the way! Not long to go now. When do you travel?

A turquoise dress like that could get me out of jeans. Lovely. Birkies by all means.

Thanks Jan. I don't wear dresses so often either. I like a nice, long flowing dress on a hot day though. I think they are cooler to wear.

I love turquoise too. It seems to be a popular colour with the ladies. Anyone who has worn Birkies before seems to like them a lot. I've had a few pair and this would be a nice new addition. I tend to wear them until they no longer look the same, lol.

These dresses are pretty and will be cool for hot weather, as they are loose and flowing.

Penny,
Hi! That is a pretty dress I think it's perfect to wear.
I like those shoes too.

lol, I love yours. :) I use to call thin dresses and shirts "flutters" as it feels like that when there is a breeze. Hope the wedding will ne nice.

I love the dresses, Penny, especially the turquoise one. It's gorgeous, and will look great on you. I have a hard time finding something cool to wear here on the desert part of the prairie, just as I had when I lived in Ashcroft. Have you ever been there? It's just south of Cache Creek, on the river, and, unlike Cache Creek, it is a cute little town. About an hour and a quarter from Kamloops, and about five hours from the coast. Handy.
I've finally decided to wear slacks with tunic-length tops. Hides a multitude of sins!

Hi Kay, oddly enough I've never been to Ashcroft. I do know where it is but I don't pass through it on my way to the places I need to get to so I've just never been there. I'm sure it is pretty.

I think the turquoise dress is lovely and I think you'll be comfortable wearing it. The shoes are an excellent choice!

Your dress is a very pretty color and looks both elegant and comfy! Of course, I know the shoes will be very comfortable! Love the red dress, also!

Love the turquoise dress. I can picture it paired with some seashell jewelry. I like Birkie's but have a pair of Merrel's too. The Merrel's have a softer insole which Birkie's have now too. Have a wonderful time with your family.

The dresses look beautiful Penny! As does the Birkenstocks! I love those shoes - so comfy! Hope you are having a wonderful day!

I don't think I've ever seen a Merrel's in store. Perhaps they are made for narrow feet. Birki's are not so easy to find here either in the right style and size.

Thank you Martine. I hope you are doing well ;-)

That is a beautiful turquoise dress. It's perfect for a summer wedding, and the Birkenstock sandals will be so comfortable for the event.

my dear joyful friend, every time I have visited here I have enjoyed my stay immensely. I should comment more too :) You have always been so encouraging, particularly in my expressions of faith. I love that you have a heart for missions, I do too - we're actually in full-time ministry here to Nth Africans. And now to your post - both dresses are lovely; but I think I like the turquoise one for its cut! Birkenstock sandals sound stylish and comfortable - I wear mine almost every day! How exciting that a nephew is getting married! Lots of love and blessings, Emily xx

The blue-green dress is beautiful. The color is cooling, the fabric looks soft and perfect for the weather you'll be experiencing by then :)

Hope you post yourself with the pretty dress on the day of the wedding! Have a great week ahead.

Oh if I could re-do my wedding..I would have it outside in a garden too. There is something so simple and romantic about that. Thanks for sharing.....I think comfort and ease are the order of the day!

That's what I liked about it. Nobody passed through, unless they were on a train, or maybe going from Merritt to Cache Creek. Close to the highway, but off of it, on the Thompson River.

Love the dress, and lol about that not being you in the photo.

Congratulations to your nephew. I'm sure you'll look beautiful on the outside and be beaming with pride and joy on the inside. Have fun! Looking forward to reading about it when you get back. And happy birthday to your mum too.

I adore turquoise, and probably have too many clothes in variations on the colour (which don't match, needless to say). The dress looks beautiful. Hope you have a lovely time, and you'll tell us about it.
