In my last post I said I would share some photos of my trip south. I'll share sky photos taken in White Rock, BC at Crescent Beach yesterday, and at Bellingham, Washington (please scroll down for the sky pics). I'm also sharing my latest "work-in-progress", a lap quilt.
Bits and pieces of fabric were purchased in Washington State on Wednesday and Thursday. I also purchased a bit of fabric in Kamloops earlier in the week and was eager to get started on my quilt. I want to make several quilts once this one is finished as I have a fair bit of fabric to use up. The problem as quilters will know is that you always find more fabric to add to your stash!

| The brightly patterned black fabric is from mom's fabric stash. I inherited it just over a year ago. Sadly I had to get rid of a lot of her fabric but I kept some of the pieces I thought I could use soon. |

| These are the two completed blocks for the quilt. I have completed all the blocks. The blocks will have a different placement to what you see in the photo and they will be framed by a solid colour. Though it looks a bit busy now, I think it will all work when I'm done. I was trying to use small bits of fabric and had to adjust my original vision for this quilt. I may have to buy more fabric for the backing or I may use some muslin fabric which I have on hand. |
I took a fabulous trip to White Rock, BC yesterday. White Rock is very near the BC-Washginton State border. There I soaked up the sounds of waves on the shore at Crescent Beach before heading south to Washington for shopping.
The first 5 photos are taken at White Rock's Crescent Beach. It was a hot and hazy day so the conditions were not ideal for taking photos.

Hi! It looks like you've been busy. Your quilt pieces are lovely, and enjoyed looking at all of the photos. It amazes me that there are still cowboys amoung us.

Wonderful quilting. I am trying to imagine how it will look when finished. Love the photo's two. My favourite is number five with the duck in the foreground and the parent and child in the middle. You are very talented with your photography Penny.
I think your quilt is going to be lovely, Penny. The black patterned fabric left from your mom's stash is gorgeous.
And I love, love, love your photos of "my beach" and "my view" — when I was still working, I had a cute little house just outside White Rock, and it had a view of Mount Baker from the patio.
So nice the haze cleared so you could see the mountain on your drive south. I don't know how many times I've taken foreign visitors all the way out to the end of the White Rock pier to see if we could "find" Mount Baker, but she was hidden in the haze.

Have been catching up with your blog, and enjoyed the description of what would have been for me an unusual and fun wedding. Presumably that's the wedding for which you had purchased that lovely dress? Hope you felt special wearing it. Love Canada's wide open spaces, and the photos do show that - beautiful. Quilting must be a very satisfying hobby, creating something beautiful out of little snippets of material which are associated with perhaps a cherished garment or other item... and very therapeutic I should think. I once went to an exhibition of US quilting, in Chepstow, Wales, and was open mouthed at the beauty I saw. But I could never use these gorgeous items, since I would want a 24 hour guard to stop anyone so much as breathing on them...

Glad you could catch up Caroline. Yes, you are right about the dress. I felt fabulous in it and unbeknownst to me until I arrived at the wedding, the colour matched perfectly with the weddings colours. I'm glad you enjoy the scenic photos of Canada. I will try to share more over time although these days I don't make cross-Canada trips like I used to. I do love crafting of all kinds, including quilting.
