Remembering

Welcome to my newest followers, Nancy from A Gardener's Cottage in Michigan and Jose Ramon Santana Vazquez from Spain. Thank you both.

It was almost two years ago that we had a fire in the condo and had to move to a hotel suite for a few months. My room mate had one suite in the hotel and I had another. It was nice having this because daily someone would clean my bathroom and vacuum and my roommate would cook dinners and bring them to me down the hall. All I had to do was get ready each morning and wash my dirty dishes as well as do my laundry. There was a washer dryer in the apartment so that was handy.

This was my kitchen area.

This was my living room area and the small built in desk at which I did my blogging. You can see through the open blinds that there was a small patio.

I enjoyed living in the hotel but by the end of my time there (about 4 months), I was ready to go home. Lately though I find myself missing the hotel. What I really miss is the ready access to downtown and the well known English Bay area.

Off of my patio I can see the waters of English Bay just beyond the high rises.

It was hard to get a good shot of the water due to that one building, lol. But you can see the big "ship" in the background.
Here is a night time shot of the sunset and the busy strip called Davie Street. I enjoyed the busyness and it wasn't too noisy to sleep at night.

What I miss most though is the wonderful and colourful sunsets which I could readily see and photograph from my patio.

I also miss my Saturday walks to nearby places like this farmer's market

... along "secret" winding paths like this

... and lovely, unexpected places to sit

...and being able to buy big bunches of flowers like this :-)

and fireworks displays like this....

Even crowds like this rushing  back from the fireworks show.

All in all, I enjoyed my stay at the hotel.  But I am glad that my home is repaired and I can stay there once again. It was just nice to remember the "good times" at my temporary home.

You must have had a great time in the hotel. Thanks for sharing all those beautiful sunsets and lovely spots in the park. I wish you a lot of strength with your work, which is very impressive.

The fire must have been a horrible experience though. I love photographing sunsets, and wow there were some lovely ones there.

What a lovely collection of photos. Is this Vancouver, Canada? I love, love, love the pink peonies in the glass vase, and the bench to sit on. And the sunsets are magnificent! Thanks for the tour.

Many years ago, I lived in Vancouver. I loved your shots of English Bay. I never got tired of looking across the bay and up to the mountains behind North Vancouver. What a beautiful city!

Having a fire is no fun but it sounds like you were lucky and you did not have everything burnt. I could well do with a few months in a hotel so everyone can do all the cleaning etc for me but I know I would miss my garden too much :-) Hope that your mother is doing well. Take care Diane

A lot to miss, even if it was only temporarily home. I'd regret the daily maid service almost as much as the views!

What beautiful pictures, the hotel rooms are gorgeous and the view breathtaking! Looking through the pictures is like being there, wow! It must have been frightening though when the fire broke out, luckily everything went well.

That was a nice place to stay while your condo was being repaired. Wow! What a colorful sky, too!

Thank you Sara. This is indeed Vancouver, Canada. I do agree that the peonies are lovely. They really brightened my week :-) I still remember them well.

I was quite comfortable there and miss not having to clean, lol. I also miss the feeling of peace just looking out at the ocean every day. I just love that.

The fire situation was not fun and especially having to watch and wait as work to rebuild was slow. I also didn't like dealing with the insurers as they initially were very difficult But I did enjoy my hotel stay. I made it into a holiday.

Thank you for your visit and coming along with me on my "hotel holiday" and thank you for your kind words about my charitable works.

Thank you, Gary! I'm glad you enjoyed the tour.

Yes it was a very nice stay. But you are right, I did miss home ;-)

Nancy, thank you for your visit and your kind comments ;-)

Clair, I didn't know you lived in Vancouver. What a small world. How did you end up here? I do feel like you in that I never get tired of looking at the bay and the mountains.

Ebie, it was a very comfortable lifestyle. It is true that no place is quite like home but home is where I lay my hat and make myself comfortable too ;-)

Joyful said...

I did love the bench ;-)

Joyful said...

Thank you. I did enjoy and I'm glad you did too.

Yes we were very fortunate not to have lost everything. It was lot of water damage and we did lose a lot of things but managed to preserve the important things.

I agree Linnea, a nice place to stay while things were being taken care of...the skies are beautiful over the ocean.
