Well done on getting your blood sugar down, these sort of health issues are always difficult to control unless your mind is set on doing something about it.

As for de-cluttering, I feel as if I have de-cluttered so many times with moving home, but thee is still too much not in use!!

Have a good day. Diane

Diane, I can imagine what you've gone through with your several international moves. You could teach others how to do it!

I am trying so hard to get things out the door as well. I am very careful about what I buy at the store...we just dont' need anything more. It is hard, but if you take one drawer...one closet...one cabinet at a time, you slowly get through it all.

Keep working at the blood sugar...glad you are getting good results! A friend of mine tried a new diet lately, and while he has lost a few pounds, he can't seem to get the blood sugar to budge. Ugh!

I understand, KT. I am also very careful about what I buy at the store and I only buy at the thrift store if I really, really need it. I've gotten rid of so much that I can't understand where it all comes from! Slowly, I think it will all work together and I'll have fewer things. I just need to keep reminding myself that simple is better.

Good luck to your friend. At least he can lose weight. I can't seem to despite a good diet. I think once my sugar is under control that will help a lot. With your friend, weight loss will probably bring his sugars down at some point if he is on a healthy diet.

It does feel wonderfully therapeutic to go through one's "stuff," organize it and/or get rid of it. I do that periodically but should do it even more often. I have used the technique of using three large baskets or boxes--one for "put away," one for "give away," and one for "throw away."

Hi Pat, I too used to go through my stuff on a regular basis but this "project" I'm working on is much bigger than my previous efforts. I'm familiar with the 3 basket/box technique but it really doesn't work for me. At the end of the day I am using a two box method, "give away" or "put away". I seldom throw anything out. I hope you' had a wonderful weekend and wish you a wonderful week ahead :-)

Penny,
I hope you don't get rid of things that you will need again some time down the road. I have done this and ended up buying things all over again.
Good luck with this journey.
Pat

Hi Pat, I'm being very mindful of that as I've done the same before. That is why it is taking me long to go through things and make a good decision as to what to let go. Much of it I have to read, use or make and then it will be "gone", or in a different form. Thanks for the caution and the good wishes.

Clutter can be a terrible thing, I agree. I try to keep from getting stuff for the sake of having stuff. I have done very well for the last six months, I think. That's one reason I was so happy with the rug that I posted about today. Part of it was a sheet that I'd had for years and some leftover fabric from making my granddaughter's Christmas gift. Unfortunately I have never purchased wool or yarn before, so I don't have any leftovers of that to make anything with, so I will be getting it from value village, most likely. It's much cheaper there.
I love my cork floor, it's very nice to stand on for long periods of time. It doesn't scratch up easily, I pull my heavy stove out regularly to clean under and it has never made a mark. If you have any more questions, let me know.
Have a good week!

You did an excellent job on your rug and the best part is the frugality with which you made it. I'm impressed. Keep up the good work. Thanks too for your help about the cork flooring. xx

Tressa, so lovely to have you as a new follow. I'm sure you get asked the same question a lot! I don't remember you being difficult, lol, but I do remember your family having to make the move. I visited in Kautekeino many years ago and that was as close to Norway as I ever got, lol. I look forward to getting to know you also. x

I like the look of your new blog. Alot changed since I left!!! I am also in the process of undercutting so I can move. I hope I can keep my home and life that way. I actually am speaking about undercutting our lives: mainly spiritually, at a church in KY in May so will really be concentrating on the subject!!! Nice touching base again!

Joyful said...

Hi Shanda, thank you for your visit. It is indeed good to touch base again. I'm so glad you are going to be speaking on the spiritual aspects of undercutting. It is actually a good underlying basis for everything I am doing now! I'd love to hear your message is received though I'm sure it will go over very well since I know you will speak from your heart. Hugs. xx

I knew about your decluttering but I had no idea it was related to a fire that sent you off living in a hotel! Bot can I relate to that! we lived in one from March to may and then into the current rental hous. We had nothing much but gradually some stuff came back in boxes cleaned by professionals. We still have boxes to empty and send stuff to Goodwill. It is an emotionally wrenching job. But each time a bit gets done like you say there is a feeling of JOY.
