Accidental Detour

A few posts ago I mentioned I had a broken washer. I've been spending time on line since then researching washers, washer/dryer pairs and checking out flyers and pricing.

In the end I purchased a May Tag washer and dryer.  I didn't even consider May Tag during my research. You never really know what is in store until you get to the store no matter how much research you've done.

I've always believed May Tag is reliable and dependable. A message I got from the many years I watched May Tag commercials as a child.  I've posted just one of their many old commercials for you in case you are unfamiliar with them.

Initially I was going to purchase the Whirlpool brand.  Whirlpool and May Tag are made by the same company and I thought May Tag machine looked to be better quality of the machines I was checking out.  It comes with a great warranty and I purchased an extension to make sure any labour repairs will be covered for the first few years.  I think I will be more than happy with the machine.

On our way to check out laundry appliances, we took the wrong turn on the highway and ended up in a place called Horseshoe Bay. This is the place where the ferries depart to various destinations on the smaller islands around these parts. This is also the departure point for the big ferry over to Nanaimo located on the much larger island called Vancouver Island.

We decided to stop for lunch at a restaurant called Trolls.  I've been wanting to have fish and chips there for a very long time.  It was a spectacular day and the food was delicious. The bonus was we got to sit outside and enjoy the air and the view.  Afterwards I crossed the street to take these photos to share with you. Unfortunately I just had my phone camera.  Thank goodness for phone cameras.

At the park area, across the street from the restaurant.

The big ferry is readying for departure. I'm guessing this one goes to Nanaimo.

The pier.

My view from the restaurant patio. My face was literally in the plant.  The flowers had fragrance.

It wasn't all rosy and light today.  Earlier I had notice that Grandma Sally is not doing too well. The doctors don't hold out much hope for her and the family members have been asked to visit.  Grandma Sally has been in hospital for about 2 months and most of that time has been spent in ICU. I pray for her healing and comfort but her advanced age and length of time she has already been in hospital make it unlikely she will get strong enough to return home. Only God knows for sure though and I try not to limit him.  My fervent hope and prayer is for Grandma Sally's comfort.

What a great series of photos, looks a lovel spot.
Hope you will be happy with the washing machine. I have never heard of May Tag but I have heard of Whirlpool.
Granma Sally is of a great age and I hope that she is peaceful and comfy until the last.
Take care, and have a good week,
Diane

Apparently Whirlpool purchased May Tag after May Tag lost it's reputation. The fact that the machines have a long warranty and that Whirlpool also makes great machines gives me assurances.

Grandma Sally is hanging on by a thread and her relatives are gathering. It is hard for my friends who are related. She is very dear to everyone.

Yes it is important that Grandma doesn't suffer needlessly. I'm glad you enjoyed the photos.

I'm glad you enjoyed the photos. The village is only about 1000 people strong but they get so many people passing through each and every day and all day long.

I'm glad you got your new appliances! Are they top or front loading? You' ll have to show them to us when they arrive. Always exciting to get new things.
Horseshoe Bay looks like a lovely place. What great scenery!
I hope Grandma Sally has the comfort she needs and is surrounded by love.

I remember those old Maytag commercials!!
My washer is a GE and I've not had any problems with it. Don't own a dryer.
Love fish and chips, developed a liking for them when we lived in Scotland.
Don't eat them much anymore, its a special treat. : )

Yes indeed!

Yes I feel the same. I needed a rejuvenating break and this was a great way to break up the day :-)

Annie, I forgot to mention they are front loaders because that way I can stack them in my laundry closet. It's too small to call it a room. It is very beautiful at Horseshoe Bay. I'm liaising with my friends in Kenya to make sure Grandma Sally is well taken care of. It's my desire to ensure she has everything she needs.

Yes, we do. It's lovely.

I'm glad you remember the commercials. They are etched in my memory, lol. I do love fish and chips and though I live at the coast it is actually hard to get a "good, tasty, fresh batch". I guess I haven't found just the right place. The one I had yesterday was delish.

What a fun day and a beautiful place!
Sorry to hear this report on Grandma Sally. I was wondering how she was.
I have a Maytag washer and dryer and it's served us well.

Looks beautiful there!! And a splendid detour!
The name of the island sounds Japanese, Nanaimo. I wonder if it has a connection to Japan? Or maybe just the name sounds like it!
The Maytag commercial is `natsukashii` (nostalgic), I think, though I don`t remember exactly that commercial, the feeling seems familiar!!
Prayers for Grandma Sally for her peace and comfort.
Blessings and Shalom! ♡

I'm glad you do Al!

Thank you for the good wishes Jeanie. They are much appreciated. The jaunt was a much needed break in a busy schedule. It's nice to stop and "smell the roses".

Hi Mari, it is a special spot in the Lower Mainland (the Greater Vancouver area). I don't get to it that often; mostly when catching the ferry which I haven't done now for ages. I'm glad to hear the Maytag washer and dryer served you well.

Joyful said...

Hi Shayndel, it was a happy detour :-) You asked a good question about the origin of the name "Nanaimo". It is actually originated from the name of a First Nations tribe in the area called Snuneymuxw, a Central Coast SALISH tribe. Nanaimo is the corruption of the name given the area meaning "gathering place." Thank you for prayers for Grandma Sally and her family and loved ones. xx

What a lovely "wrong turn" you made! I'd say that was a "right turn"! Such a lovely place...and you got to have lunch out in the bargain! My favorite kind of detour. I do hope your new Maytags will live up to the commercials! Oh yes, that poor lonely Maytag repairman...I remember him well! So sorry to hear about "Grandma Sally". I will keep her in my prayers...praying that God will comfort her and be merciful unto her. Praying for her family as well. This was a lovely post. Thank you for sharing your day with us.

Oh, sweet prayers for Grandma Sally. I loved your statement that you try not to limit God. I find I do that way to often. :( What an absolutely beautiful area you live in. Your fotos are really good...and most of mine are with my phone camera, too. Yes, thank goodness for them! Thanks for joining in...HOPE you have a wonderful weekend.

Beautiful photos! I remember those old Maytag commercials, and to this day I have a "sense" that they are more reliable. It's amazing how effective commercials can be with regard to shaping our opinions.

Very interesting vintage commercial with a lot of humour that is too often absent from the new ones, I find. The landscape on your pics is absolutely stunning, a real postcard! My best wishes for you and for Grandma Sally.

I know how difficult it is when a loved one is very sick. Please know I'm thinking of you.

Your photos bring back so many memories. Trolls, of course! I'm glad the fish and chips are still good. And the ferry to Nanaimo. And the smaller one to Bowen Island? Long ago and far away but branded in my brain (like the Simon & Garfunkel sound) because I spent so much of my life on The Wet Coast! (I also remember MayTag commercials.) Thanks for this post, almost like a trip home, reminding me to get ready because we're coming out, from here on the bald prairie, next month to see my family.
Thanks for sharing!

Thanks Joyful, that is interesting about the name.
In Japanese nana=7, and imo= potato, so could be like a gathering place too:)
Sorry it must be a tough time now with concern for Grandma Sally. When I was praying (after reading your post above)for her I saw flowers with petals made of light, facing `upwards`, it was beautiful and peaceful and a butterfly too before the flowers. Prayers that she is feeling peace and comfort.xx
