Blue Buttons ~ Blue Monday, October 25, 2010

"Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things."

One day I was sorting all my buttons by colour. I found this set of blues and near blues. Now I wonder what I'll use them for as I have buttons in several colours! I could make some crafts with them I guess as I don't make enough garments that will require so many buttons.  Whatever I decide to do with them, I know the buttons in various colours including these blue ones, are ready to be used.

At first blush you may wonder what my selected quotation has to do with buttons.  It just strikes me that life is made up of so many little things and that we need to enjoy the journey that we call life. This journey that is made up of many little steps and little events and some big ones now and then. Some people have trouble enjoying what they feel are the mundane things of life. Things like sorting buttons or organizing the desk, the household, the car, etc. I feel fortunate to find JO
not just in the doing of these things but in the contentedness that comes from having accomplished these small goals.

How do you feel about these mundane tasks like sorting buttons? Do you have a lot of buttons too? How do you organize them?  What do you do with them?

Join Smiling Sally and friends here for more Blue Monday.

Yes, I agree, when we are satisfied with the little things in our simple life, we dont feel we are missing out, we can be very happy and contented.

I see packets of mixed buttons for sale these days, apparently they are used in some genres of craft.

I have always had a button jar, and it does come in handy.

With love and blessings, Jan

The delicate colours of the buttons complement each other. Yes, small tasks can be very satisfying.

We need to enjoy everything each day as we know there is no promise of tomorrow. Blue Mondays is one thing I enjoy.

So nice to be able to organize the little things and find joy! Thanks for stopping by my blog. Haven't been there much recently with a new grandchild and my Mom visiting, but so nice to find your comment.

Thanks for visiting me and introducing me to your blog. I was reading some of your past posts and see you have read the No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency....I've read them all and they are some of my all time favorite stories. They are kind of slow but so uplifting, I love how he describes the land and the people. Did you see the HBO series?

Funny you should ask,'cause I have something to say about all this! Some people just live for their vacation coming up, or this and that in the future. Meanwhile, they miss the rest of life going by. And the small, exquisite things that God puts in their way to enjoy. Living in the present is so very important, and looking for what God has put right here right now for us! I have been playing with all my buttons lately! I keep them in a heart shaped box and have lots and lots from many years. I will never use them on clothes probably, so I do button crafts with our four year olds. This month we've been making button spiders with pipecleaners and buttons. Watching them sort through my button box reminds me of when I was a little girl going through my mom's button box. It was a large heavy round tin, much like what a fruitcake might have come in. She had strange and wonderful buttons. But I was not able to look very much, because there were always stray needles and pins in there, and I would get stuck!

For me now, nothing but the simple things make much sense. I don't sew, so I have few buttons. Years ago though, there was a designer in Pasadena, CA, who used to sew a large button on first and then one or two smaller ones on top of it, creating a nice depth. She used that on her dresses and coats and I copied her on some of mine. Oh, the things we remember.

I found your blog and enjoy your thoughts on life. I like to stay positive and try to remember to enjoy every minute of the day. Difficult to do when you live in Orange County, California. I used to live in Nigeria as a child, and have traveled and lived around the world.

Thanks everyone for all your comments. I can't comment on all of them because that would be a very long post but I want each of you to know that I read and so appreciate every one of your comments. I also use your name links and go and visit your blog pages, so you will see me around ;-)

SMILING SALLY, I agree that the photo exudes a moment of calm when looking at it. I wonder if it is because of the colour blue ;-) I've read that blue is a calming colour and that it somehow frees the mind.

DOMESTICALLY INCLINED, I'm so glad you popped in as I did notice that you hadn't been on your blog for awhile. I hope you pop in again some time and I hope to read more of your excellent blog when you have time to update it.

DANDELION AND DAISY, thank you for your visit. I haven't read all of the No 1 Ladies' Detective Agency series but I am working on it, and I do agree that the stories are slow and peaceful. I haven't had a chance to see the HBO series as I don't get HBO but some day they might be picked up by one of my channels and then I'll be sure to catch them.

GINNY, thank you so much for sharing your thoughts. I so agree that we can easily miss the many small and exquisite things that God puts in our path to help us to enjoy life's journey. So glad to meet a kindred spirit in you and happy to read your uplifting blog where you celebrate many of the small gifts of life. Your grandchildren are so blessed that you are enjoying the small daily pleasures with them. Blessings.

CANYON GIRL, now that sounds like an inventive use of buttons in sewing. I don't think I could replicate it though as I'm all thumbs when it comes to that kind of thing ;-)

GUTSYWRITER, thank you for your visit. I have been to Orange Country so I know what you mean. If I lived there I would have to really concentrate on quiet times and simple pleasures. I'm intrigued that you used to live in Nigeria. I haven't been there but was in Ghana and also in Kenya. A friend did invite me to Nigeria but I didn't make it. Now I'm going to have to check out your blog. Please visit again :-)

Oh yes, I find great joy in accomplishing small tasks. Besides, sorting buttons is a big task that makes one happy to be finished with the mundane job. Joyful is a lovely blog name. I sure enjoyed your blues and your visit.

Hugs, Jeanne
