It's Friday!

I really haven't been up to a whole lot but the days just seem to whiz by. I am spending my time trying to keep warm, bake and run a few errands. We have another snowfall warning for tonight but I think most of it will fall overnight so I don't have an updated photo of what it looks like.  The photo below is one taken after yesterday's snowfall. You can see the sky is quite gray.

Here's me all bundled in my Russian hat and my down parka. I don't have much opportunity to wear the hat. In fact it was the first time during this year. I got several compliments on it as I did errands at the post office and delivered a book to the neighbourhood library.  In this photo my hat looks like a bushy hairdo, lol.

On my way, I stopped off at the health food store to purchase a new bottle of Aloe Vera gel. I stopped taking it for some time while I have been taking some heavy duty vitamins.  However I found that Aloe Vera gel seems to help some small rashes that appeared on my arms some time ago and never went away. I have no idea what caused the rashes but they were clearing in patches by drinking a tablespoon of aloe vera gel in a glass of water daily.  Since I stopped drinking it a few weeks ago there has been no further reduction in the rashes so time to start drinking it again and hope for the best. I don't like the taste of the gel so I dilute it with a lot of water.  I also have some topical gel but for some reason can't get into using it.

When I stopped at the post office I found these books I ordered from Christianbooks.com

These will help me when I study the Bible.
My long time readers will know that I very seldom buy books but this month I purchased 5. That is a record for me.

~~~~~
Last but not least are these lovely exotic birds from the Bloedel Conservatory in Vancouver.
They add some colour to the otherwise gray days here.
I think this is a Common Chaffinch
Beautiful birds and very colourful. We have to go to the hospital Monday morning at sparrow for Nigel to try and sort out his skin problem that started while we were in S.Africa, the forecast is 1C to -6 C we are going to freeze, we do not have clothes suitable for the very low temperatures as generally we do not need them! Like your hat :-)
Have a great weekend and keep warm Diane
Snow for you guys is a much bigger problem even though we get much more snow. We are equipped to handle it.
I remember when we lived in Canada, only for a short while, but we had to have parka's. I was only 12 and didn't even know what a parka was, we don't have them in Texas. Enjoyed the bird fotos, they are so colorful and pretty.
It is nice to put a picture to your name, nice to meet you! Love the hat and the bird shots! I see in previous post about the snow. I wish winter would hurry up and get to spring soon.
Hi Penny, not surprised about the weather in Canada...still so cold and snowing at times. I grew up in Ohio and we were having those cold and snowy weathers back then and even now, but I live in S. Florida and for us this is our spring weather perfect, breezy, mildly warm and sunny. We are so used to it and not even think about any different temperatures until someone brings it up! Love all your photos, and the pretty birds. Cute photo of you in your Russian hat and down parka! Have a wonderful weekend!
If you were close by (I'm in Florida), I'd cut some aloe from the yard for you to put on your arm. Keep drinking the gel but also find an aloe houseplant. Buy it and cut one end section off one of the leaves. Cut it open and scoop out gel for the rash. Put in aluminum foil and refrigerate the piece of aloe. Use again until you use it up. Aloe gel is like a miracle sometimes with skin problems.
Thank you Stephanie. I thought it was also nice to see you (sitting on your walker) a few posts ago. You live so close by yet so far :-(
Thanks for the tips Carol. I actually do own an aloe plant but I hate to cut it as it doesn't grow that fast in my cold-ish apartment. I do also own some aloe gel for topical application.
You look so adorable in that hat! Nice to "see" you too.
Beautiful birds.
I hope the aloe helps. I didn't know you could drink it. I learn something new every day it seems.
What lovely birds and I enjoyed seeing that picture. My husband had a similar hat years and years ago, when we lived out in Kansas. They are warm! I can't imagine drinking aloe, I tried it once and it was so bitter. But I have two aloe plants on my windowsill. Alana ramblinwitham.blogspot.com
Isn't it affirming to get compliments on something you're wearing?! Cute hat, indeed. I love the Gouldian Finch - God got out his paint brush for that one!
I am glad that those gorgeous birds brightened your day. Perhaps you should consider joining your local naturalists club where you could go on many bird walks, attend interesting meetings and enjoy the stimulating intellectual company of the members. I highly recommend it!
I grow aloe vera because the fresh gel is good for stopping bleeding and applying on burns. Sometimes we make aloe vera desserts too. At first glance your hat looks like your hair! Those are beautiful exotic birds!
If I remember correctly, you live in Vancouver -- and that is wayyy too cold for there! I hope you get some relief from winter soon. The birds really do add wonderful color though! The hat is great! I look terrible in hats to my sorrow. Here in Florida, because of the sun I should always wear one (not made of fur of course), but I don't. I used to always keep a bottle of Aloe Vera gel -- it was good for acne breakouts for my kids (and for me because it took me a long time to outgrow that). Maybe it would work for wrinkles now ;>)
You have a lovely blog too.
I've never heard of a gouldian finch but wow what beautiful colors.
Your hat looks nice and warm. I wouldn't mind having one on some cold winter morning.
Hi Joyfull, Its so good to see you there! I feel like I `met you` through your wonderful photo with the hat and eyes open so wide to greet us!! Hajimemashite! (Nice to meet you!), although we already `met`!! It really is a colorfull post with the addition of the pictures of birds. Color really adds light in our lives doesn`t it!!! There was so much in this post I wanted to comment on but what was another, oh the Christian books!! I also recently spent time there at the site and ordered a few, and after a friend recommended a Visual Bible !!! So I may have to make another order! Happy reading and Bible study with your new books!! Many blessings and great health to you !
